SP-10 is a protein that is specific to male germ cells and is not found in other cells. The SP-10 male fertility test is highly specific for sperm and is now used to estimate sperm concentration in semen as an aid in determining causes of infertility. The SP-10 rapid test detects SP-10 and gives a positive result when the sperm concentration is above 15 million/ml in the semen, which is the internationally acceptable minimum level of sperm for normal fertility.
