Staphylococcus aureus

Staphylococcus aureus is a bacterium most often associated with the skin and mucous membranes, but it can sometimes appear in the gastrointestinal tract. It is not usually thought of as a core gut bacterium, so its presence in a gut profile can give information about a broader shift in the dog’s microbial environment. Higher levels may be linked to irritation, inflammation, immune stress, or transfer from skin and mucosal surfaces.
