Which hormones are analyzed in Men’s Hormone Test
- Testosterone
- Cortisol
- DHEA
- Progesterone
- Estrogen (specifically estradiol, E2)
- Progesterone / estrogen ratio
DHEA
DHEA is a hormone that can be converted to both testosterone and estrogen and is such a powerful hormone that it is classified as doping if you add it via supplements in excessive doses. With this we can see why it is so important for both men and women.
Normally, DHEA is at its highest when we are in our 20s and then decreases gradually over the years. DHEA affects our performance, energy, potency, memory, muscle mass, skin, body odor, bone mass, the development of puberty hair, helps keep us young and weight.
Constant stress can reduce the levels of DHEA.
Testosterone
Testosterone is needed for, among other things, energy, endurance, muscle strength and sex drive. Men who have too low testosterone may have erection problems or prostate problems, decreased sex drive or muscle strength, anxiety, depression and decreased energy. Too much testosterone, on the other hand, can lead to aggressive behavior.
Cortisol
Men’s hormone Test measures your cortisol levels in the morning. If you want to do a more comprehensive test specifically for Cortisol, which includes measurements of your levels for a whole day, we instead recommend our cortisol test which is done 7 times in a day and gives you 5 values.
Progesterone in men
Men need progesterone to produce testosterone and there is thus a direct link between low levels of progesterone and testosterone in men. Too low levels of progesterone in men can cause symptoms such as decreased sex drive, impaired sperm quality, impaired potency, depression / depression, decreased muscle mass, fatigue, impaired memory and affect sleep.
Why measure estrogen in men?
Men also have estrogen, albeit in low amounts. Men with too high levels of estrogen have an easier time developing breasts, also called gynecomastia. Other common symptoms of elevated estrogen levels are decreased potency, infertility, depression / depression and headaches / migraines.
How does the test work
The test is a saliva test that is collected on two occasions during a day and is performed at home; you take the first saliva immediately when you wake up and the second saliva sample is taken 30 minutes after the first. The sample is then sent to the lab for analysis and you will receive your answer digitally.
