GetTested’s Allergy & Food Intolerance Test is suitable for you who want to test yourself for both a possible allergy or food intolerance as it can be difficult to distinguish its symptoms and different types of reactions. The test includes two different tests on a total of 78 different substances where we in addition to analyzing different foods also looks for a possible allergy to mold, dog, cat, horse, mites and more.

The test is a so-called capillary blood test that analyzes whether you have IgE or IgG4 antibodies to any of the 78 substances included. You take the test easily at home and everything you need to be able to complete the test is sent home in a test kit.

IgE vs IgG; allergy vs food intolerance

This test measures IgE antibodies for allergy and IgG4 antibodies for food intolerance. Allergy is an  immune system reaction, and food intolerance  is a gastrointestinal reaction. This means that you can be allergic to a food item, without having a food intolerance reaction or vice versa.

Allergic reactions often occur immediately and can manifest as milder symptoms such as runny nose, but can also become severe and life-threatening reactions. Food intolerances, on the other hand, can take hours to days before they show any symptoms and the symptoms can be very diffuse, such as fatigue, mood swings, brain fog, headaches, gastrointestinal problems and more.

The ELISA-method

The food intolerance test is performed via a method called ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay), which is an analytical technique designed to detect and quantify soluble substances such as peptides, proteins, antibodies and hormones. In this method, the antigen itself (the target macromolecule) is immobilized on a solid surface (microplate) and then complexed with an antibody that is linked to a reporter enzyme. Detection is accomplished by measuring the activity of the reporter enzyme via incubation with a suitable substrate to produce a measurable product. The most crucial element of an ELISA is a very specific antibody-antigen interaction.

Instructions

You take the test yourself at home through a so-called capillary blood test. This means that you will have to make a small stick in your finger and squeeze out a few drops of blood on a piece of paper or into a test tube. Your sample is then sent to our lab for analysis and you will receive your answer digitally as soon as the lab has analyzed your sample.

  1. Make a purchase on the website and pay with Swish or card (Visa, AMEX or Mastercard). Easy and safe.
  2.  A test kit is sent to the address you enter when ordering. After your order, we will send home a test kit with instructions. It also comes with a stamped envelope that is mailed to us. It is recommended to send in your sample on a Monday or Tuesday.
  3. Carry out the test according to the instructions included in your test kit and on the web. Our Support can also answer all possible questions, before and after submissions and results.
  4. Send the test kit to our ISO certified lab and wait for results digitally. You will normally receive an answer within 15 working days after our lab has received your sample.
